Director's Notes

As the summer months of 2010 dawn on us, we are excited about opportunities in Normal and in Decatur. We continue to meet new clients and build relationships in both places.

Brian and Tina Zimmerman are doing a terrific job ministering to children and their families in the neighborhood where our Decatur house is located. A couple of churches and pastors in Decatur have partnered with them in an effort to mentor the neighborhood children with whom Brian and Tina have built relationships. The grill can be seen smoking outside the garage as Brian and Tina invite children and their families for an impromptu cookout. Scheduled food giveaways are also offered, as well as other activities that are increasing in frequency with the advent of the warmer months. Brian and Tina, with the help of a variety of volunteers, are working and watching as God multiplies their contacts and their opportunities in that needy area of the city.

At our main building in Normal, we continue to serve former clients and newcomers. We may eventually be bidding farewell to a client, Dale (and his dog, Sheba), who has also labored tirelessly and cheerfully for us, but who tells us that he will soon be moving on as the road ahead calls. We are experiencing moderate turnover in volunteers, which is sometimes sad, though God always brings special new volunteers to us. Kay Cremer, our personal friend and faithful volunteer for years, went home to Heaven in March. Please pray for our dear friend and eldest volunteer, Bob, who is dealing with health issues. Others who are special to us, are coming and going, as well. God has blessed us with numerous wonderful volunteers over the years, all of whom we are thankful for.

We will be offering movie nights and special ladies' nights at the main Normal food pantry for our clients this summer. A Thursday evening ladies' Bible study is also in full swing. We are looking forward to the ways God will work in the coming months. Our heart's desire is to continue to serve all our clients with physical and spiritual food. We never cease to be amazed at the way God links lives for His glory.
